What you bring to the table

Beck is looking for a qualified Senior VDC Engineer to join an extraordinary team in Dallas. As part of Beck's Virtual Building Group Services team, you will be involved in providing practical solutions to bridge the gap between design and construction in order to increase the value provided to our clients. Your primary areas of focus are Reality Capture and modeling of existing conditions, model and document analysis for project teams, development of field use drawings (i.e. concrete placement drawings), and validation of new technologies.

The job involves the following essential functions:

  • Model development using Autodesk Revit
  • Reality Capture data acquisition and processing: LiDAR and Photogrammetry
  • Interpret Reality Capture data and convert it to BIM
  • Model reviews for design, preconstruction, and construction applications
  • Assist with development and implementation of new processes
  • Provide internal training to other members of VBG and project teams
  • Travel 10-15% of the time to job sites
  • Management of VBG project resources schedule and financials
  • Develop proposals, estimates, and schedules for VBG projects
  • Plan and oversee VBG projects
  • Apply technology to advance design and construction practices
  • Maintain compliance with all company's policies and procedures
  • Attend industry conferences and develop thought leadership within the AEC community

This role requires a high degree of self-motivation, attention to detail, flexibility, ability to quickly absorb information from fields outside your area of expertise, and a willingness to give and receive constructive criticism. You have the ability to proactively identify and solve problems and interact collaboratively and professionally with the project team, VBG team, as well as external customers. You also possess uncompromising authenticity and integrity, effective time management skills, a thorough understanding of building construction, and a passion to get things done. An individual with an interest in the integrated project delivery method and an interest in being innovative in process improvement and technology will be an ideal candidate for this position.

Required skills and experience:

  • 2-5 years minimum or relevant industry experience
  • 4-year degree in architecture, engineering, construction or similar (applicants with 2-year degree or no college experience may be considered given appropriate work experience)
  • High proficiency and experience with BIM based coordination tools, specifically Autodesk Revit and Autodesk Navisworks
  • Experience working with laser scanning data
  • Dedication to advancing design and construction management practices through the use of available tools and technology
  • Experience implementing design and construction technology and processes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Experience instructing, tutoring, and training professionals in industry processes and technologies
  • Have the grit to work on multiple projects and handle multiple tasks during the same time period
  • Ability to work independently as well as in teams, to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
